APC candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu, has been declared by the independent national electoral commission (INEC) as the winner of the Saturday governorship poll in Ondo state.
Akeredolu won in 14 out of the state’s 18 local government areas, PDP in two and ad in the remaining two.
the poll’s chief returning officer, professor Abdul Ganiy Ambali, announcing the results in Akure, says Rotimi Akeredolu of Apc scores 244,842 votes, followed by Eyitayo Jegede of pdp who obtained 150,380 votes.
two other strong contender, Olusola Oke of ad recieved 126,889 votes, while Olu Agunloye of SDP scored 10,149 votes.
local government areas won by the APC candidate, according to Ambali, are Akure south, Odigbo, Owo, Akoko north west, Akoko south west, Ese Odo, Akoko south, Akure north, ole Oluji/Oke Igbo, Akoko north east, Ifedore, Irele and Ose.
the PDP candidate won in the Ondo west, and Ondo east local government areas, while ad candidate won in the Okitipupa and Ilaje local government areas.
the chief returning officer puts the number of voters accredited for the polls at 584,997, valid votes cast at 551,272, rejected votes (29,615), and the total number of votes cast at 580,887.
meanwhile, governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state has congratulated Rotimi Akeredolu of apc for emerging victorious in the Ondo state governorship poll.
Amosun in a statement praised the people of Ondo state for choosing Akeredolu and APC in the poll.
the governor says Akeredolu’s election will bring unprecedented change, progress and infrastructural development, social and economic growth to the state.
he also said APC winning the poll also portends a good omen for the collective development and progress for the south west under APC.
in another development, top leaders of Ondo state PDP are scheduled to meet on the outcome of the last Saturday governorship poll won by APC.
the state PDP chairman, clement Faboyede, speaking in Akure on the poll’s outcome, says that all the party’s stakeholders will meet in Akure to decide on the next line of action.
the party’s candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, says he is still studying the official results of the poll.
he, however, says that his party will decide on how to react to the poll results.
in another development, the disqualified PDP candidate for the Ondo state governorship poll, Jimoh Ibrahim has congratulated the apc candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu for emerging as winner of the poll.
Ibrahim in his congratulation message before the final results were made public, urged Akeredolu to investigate the outgoing governor Olusegun Mimiko by auditing public account and recover alleged stolen fund.
Ibrahim also asked Akeredolu to maintain his distance from governor Mimiko of he wants to Succeeds, and to urgently restore hope of the people in government.
Akeredolu, according to him could achieve this by immediately doing whatever is possible for the civil servants, recalling seeing poverty in villages he visited during his electioneering campaign Across the state.Please subscribe to our newsletter
