11 states provide land for cattle ranch project

Eleven states in the north have provided 55,000 hectares of land for the establishment of ranches for rearing and feeding of cattle, as part of measures to stop bloody clashes between armed herdsmen and farmers

Agriculture and Rural Development Minister, Chief Audu Ogbeh, announced the development at a news conference in Abuja.

The minister listed the 11 states as Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Plateau, Gombe, Taraba, Niger, Adamawa, Jigawa, Sokoto and the Federal Capital Territory.

He said the 2011 national agriculture sample survey indicates that Nigeria has a population of 19.5 million cattle, 72.5 million goats, and 41.3 million sheep.
