Eleven people have died in massive flooding during the non-stop five hour rainfall in Suleja and Tafa local government area of Niger State over the weekend.
Several other residents in the communities were injured, and houses destroyed.
Bodies of most of the people swept away by the flood had not been recovered as at Sunday.
Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Inga, told newsmen Sunday night in Minna, that nine of them were killed at Chechenya and one in Kusapa, both of them in Suleja.
The eleventh victim died at Ayin in Nasarawa local government area of Tafa local government area.
He stated that so far, two of the bodies of those killed by the flood had been recovered but the search and rescue operation was still on to recover the remaining bodies while efforts are being made to attend to those injured and ameliorate the sufferings of those whose houses were submerged.
“As I am talking to you now, the search and rescue operation is going on and now two bodies have been recovered. Initially, we thought it was eight people who lost their lives in Suleja but now it has increased to 11 and we have another one from Tafa.”
